Sesame Street video targets hair self-esteem

Another video that has gone viral lately – but only at about one-quarter the rate of Craigery Morgan’s “Surprise Party” posted here yesterday – is a Sesame Street video aimed at girls of African descent who don’t like their hair. The video was developed by Sesame Street head writer Joey Mazzariono for his adopted daughter Segi, originally from Ethiopia.

Mazzariono heard his daughter complaining that she wanted blonde hair like her Barbie doll. The video shows a brown puppet representing a little girl of African descent singing about how much she likes her hair.

The video was originally posted to Sesame Street’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/sesamestreet.
