Remembrance Day 2012

Remembrance Day is when Canadians pause to give thanks and remember the sacrifices of our military veterans — those who fought to keep us free. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, please observe two minutes of silence in their honour. It’s the least we can do.

Today, especially, I remember my maternal grandfather, Michael Pineau of PEI, who fought for Canada in the First World War. He would have been 119 years old in September.

He never spoke of the war but had war-related nightmares well into his senior years. He died in 1986 at the age of 93.
