Expansion, renovation and renewal – Boutique Hospice Shoppe bigger and better than ever!

MONCTON, N.B. – Greater Moncton’s premiere consignment boutique has expanded!

Hospice Southeast New Brunswick (SENB)’s Boutique Hospice Shoppe at 164 Collishaw Street has expanded its floor space by about one-third. The organization bought the building in late 2020 and began renovations last month by tearing down the wall between the Shoppe and a small retail space next door. Office and change rooms have been shifted, the layout of the store has been redesigned and the whole space has been refreshed with new paint. The result of weeks of work is a more spacious, vibrant layout of gently used, top-quality clothing and household items, ready for shoppers to enjoy.

“The Hospice SENB Board of Directors decided to buy the building as a good investment for the future of the organization,” says Dennis Cochrane, Chair of the Board. “The Shoppe has been growing thanks to our generous donors and hard-working volunteers, so we needed more space. It also saves us money by improving our cash flow. And for a non-profit, that’s always important.”

Betty Rooney, volunteer chair of the Hospice Shoppe Committee, oversaw a small army of volunteers who worked long hours packing, unpacking, sorting, cleaning and in some cases building and assembling displays and shelving. “We are so proud of the work everyone has done to make the Shoppe look great and provide a wonderful shopping experience for the public,” she says.

“We are so thankful for the Hospice volunteers who have been so diligent and hardworking, the members of the Hum-Lew-Sun Lions Club who also came to help us with the heavy lifting,” Mrs. Rooney says. She also wants to thank a few of the volunteers’ husbands who came to lend a hand. “We can’t forget them!” she said with a laugh.

Michelle Tupy, Manager of the Boutique Hospice Shoppe, also appreciates how well the store will now work. “We had many good quality items in storage and now we have more room to display them,” she explains. “Our new layout is roomier, making it easier for shoppers to social distance, and our volunteers have more space to sort all the lovely donations that come through our doors. Not only is it a more appealing store, it will operate more efficiently, getting our donations out for sale much quicker.”

The Shoppe re-opened on February 16, soon after the region switched back to the orange phase. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday. During the ongoing COVID-19 restriction period, donations to the Shoppe are by appointment only by calling 506-855-7467 during regular business hours.

The Boutique Hospice Shoppe will also soon launch a new online service on the Hospice SENB website at hospicesenb.ca! The new page will feature photos and full descriptions of collectables, antiques and top-quality clothing and household items for sale. Shoppers can pay and arrange for pickup online from the comfort of their home.

Established in 2004, Hospice SENB is a registered charity that promotes awareness about end-of-life issues, provides grief and bereavement services and support for palliative clients and their families, and raises funds to support its residential hospice. Hospice SENB services are free, confidential and available to all citizens of Albert, Kent and Westmorland counties.
