Viral Video Alert: Coca-Cola’s brilliant feel-good marketing move will leave you smiling

Virtual toast of Coke between Indian and Pakistani residents
Virtual toast of Coke between Indian and Pakistani residents.

Coca-Cola has a long history of feel-good ads. Who can forget their iconic “I’d Like To Teach the World To Sing” commercials? Their Christmas season ads always seem to leave people smiling, too. They know how to tug at our heartstrings!

This time, the world’s biggest soft drink manufacturer got a bit political by bringing together two countries with a traditionally strained relationship: India and Pakistan. And you wouldn’t believe how they did it… through vending machines! Through an interactive vending machine set up in India and one set up in Pakistan, residents of each country could see each other and communicate — all while enjoying a Coke. I love this!

From the YouTube video description: “In March 2013, Coca-Cola set out to break down barriers and create a simple moment of connection between two nations — India and Pakistan. The initiative “Small World Machines” provided a live communications portal between people in India and Pakistan and showed that what unites us is stronger than what sets us apart. The key to engaging with each other through the machines was simple: people in India and Pakistan could complete a task, like touching hands, drawing peace, love, and happiness symbols — together.”

Uploaded only a week ago, the video already has nearly 1.2 million views.

Moncton launches tourism promotion

I was very happy to see that the City of Moncton is using user-created social media to its advantage.

The Moncton Moments Video Contest runs until Dec. 12. To enter, submit a video of between 45 to 90 seconds in length that answers the question, ‘What’s your favourite thing to do in Moncton?’ Contestants need to end their video with the question, ‘What’s your Moncton Moment?’ The contest is open to Moncton residents and tourists.

The contest’s purpose is to share community pride and promote the city’s quality of life.

Each household can submit up 10 videos. Those entering between May 17 and July 4 will receive a coupon booklet with savings and discounts to a number of Moncton attractions. You will also be entered into an early-bird draw for an iPad.

According to a City of Moncton news release, ‘The most creative and passionate videos can win up to $5,000 in prizes, including iPads, gift packs and the grand prize of a $1,500 digital package.’ In July, August and September, five videos per month will be chosen by judges to win $100 merchandise packages. At the end of the contest in December, the $1,500 digital package will be awarded along with three iPads.

Participants must be at least 19 years of age. If anyone younger appears in the video, their face(s) must not be recognizable. For more information, visit the contest’s website at www.monctonmoments.com or follow them on Twitter at @monctonmoments. This is a great initiative. What better way to get authentic and heartfelt love letters for Moncton than to ask people to submit their real-life videos? These will be much more impactful than scripted, professionally produced videos.

There’s a place for those, of course, but this is a perfect way to gather some promotional content at very little cost.

Bell Aliant makes TV more social

TwitterAfter the launch earlier this year of its Facebook app for its TV service, this week Bell Aliant launched the next logical step – a Twitter app!

After downloading the Twitter app through their Bell Aliant FibreOP TV connection, viewers will be able to tweet about what they’re watching right from their TV using their remote. Viewers can also post a tweet, read their Twitter feed, view tweets about the show they’re currently watching and check out trending topics in Canada.

According to a news release issued earlier this week by Bell Aliant, the idea of social TV is popular among Atlantic Canadians, with 83 per cent of Newfoundland and Labradorians, 75 per cent of New Brunswickers, 72 per cent of Nova Scotians and 71 per cent of Prince Edward Islanders responding that they would like to use their TV to surf the Internet or access social media.

This week’s featured YouTube channels

Each week, I suggest three YouTube channels for you to check out. Statistics are current to May 23. Have a favourite channel? Let me know about it and I may feature it here!

I recently picked up the book Tapping Into Ultimate Success: How to Overcome Any Obstacle and Skyrocket Your Results by Jack Canfield and Pamela Bruner. Subsequently, I started doing some research on tapping, an emotional freedom technique (EFT). According to the U.K.’s The Energy Therapy Centre, tapping is described as ‘an EFT treatment involves the use of fingertips rather than needles to tap on the end points of energy meridians that are situated just beneath the surface of the skin.

The treatment is non-invasive and works on the ethos of making change as simple and as pain free as possible.’ Yup, I admit that it sounds a bit “out there,” but if it’s good enough for author and success guru Jack Canfield, it’s good enough for me! There are many uses to this form of therapy, including overcoming fears and phobias, weight loss, motivation, confidence, etc. Here are a few YouTube channels that show how tapping works.

1) Pamela Bruner, Success Coach (668 subscribers): Bruner is the co-author of Jack Canfield’s book on tapping. She also as a website at www.MakeYourSuccessEasy.com and has more than 5,000 followers on Twitter at @PamelaBruner. Her channel description: “Discover powerful, effective ways to market and grow your business specifically for spiritually-oriented transformational entrepreneurs.” (Most popular video: How to Tap for Money Faster.m4v – 23,071 views.)

2) EFT with Brad Yates (9,002 subscribers): Yates describes his channel as: ‘Tapping videos to help you move through limiting beliefs and enjoy an ever-greater abundance of health, wealth and happiness, which you deserve. Create the life of your dreams!’ His 280 videos have garnered nearly 3.8 million views and touch on issues such as feeling lucky, getting inspired and living with passion. (Most popular video: Tap O’ the Mornin’ with Brad Yates – EFT – 564,482 views.)

3) David Childerley EFT Performance Coach (17,997 subscribers): Childerley is a broadcaster and performance coach from the U.K. whose channel has 152 videos with nearly 18 million views. His videos touch on topics such as worrying, manifesting more money, fear, health, sex, feeling safe and grounded, becoming more aware, and changing your life faster using EFT. (Most popular video: SEX Tips: EFT Impotence cure works! – 3,089,202 views.)

Increase your marketing and networking effectiveness with SendOutCards™

Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m a greeting card freak! If there’s a birthday or other event or holiday, I am (or “was”, I should say) more than happy to spend up to 30 minutes or more looking through a store’s card section for that “special” card that spoke to the occasion. I also send out nearly 150 Christmas cards every year – and even include an annual newsletter! Yup… I’m one of THOSE people!

With that said, when you send out a lot of cards like me, it can get expensive and time consuming. Sometimes, I just want to send something quickly and not fight traffic going to and from the store. Also, I usually never find exactly what I’m looking for. And have you seen the price of cards lately? Nice ones are around $5 each (at least!). And cards from the Dollar Store – nope, not for me. They look and feel cheap!

As a business owner wanting to have customized cards, I would have been forced to have cards printed if I wanted something with my logo on it. Making cards at home wasn’t an option – all that printer ink and card stock would be expensive – and the end result still looks homemade and cheesy.

I wanted something easy, cost effective, 100% customizable and powerful.

So, when I heard about SendOutCards™, I got excited… really excited. Finally! A way for me to send greeting cards whether they be generic… customized… personal… business-related… special campaigns… holidays… everything! I can even include brownies, cookies, a gift card or a QR code to a custom video!

Needless to say, I signed up right away. While I decided to become a distributor (I was THAT impressed), many also use SendOutCards™’ through the pay-as-you-go service option or as a monthly subscriber. I’ve been sending cards for the past several weeks – cards of encouragement, congratulations, thanks, sympathy, birthdays… you name it, I’ve sent it! And because they can be personalized, I’ve been adding my own photos and write-ups to many of the cards, too. There are also thousands of ready-made templates to choose from for every occasion and event imaginable!

To say the least, the reaction from recipients so far has been phenomenal. The cards arrive within a week of being sent through SendOutCards™ and they arrive with a REAL stamp on them, virtually guaranteeing they’ll be opened. The quality is A+, too!

A few benefits of SendOutCards™:

  • A powerful built-in database to keep track of your contacts
  • Prompting for birthdays
  • Complete personalization capabilities (company logos, personal photos, clipart, etc.)
  • Ability to include gifts (brownies, cookies, gift cards, etc.)
  • No stuffing envelopes, addressing cards, etc. – automated system!
  • Wide variety of card sizes available — two-panel, three-panel, vertical, horizontal, “big cards”, postcards
  • Customized handwriting fonts available

If you’re in real estate, insurance, sales or run any other type of business – small, medium or large – that has clients with whom you regularly interact, SendOutCards™ is a brilliant opportunity to connect with your clients, potential clients, friends and family. Anyone can use the service — personal or business!

If you’re looking for a cost-effective way to send out greeting cards either for yourself or as part of your business, SendOutCards™ is for you!

Click “Join Now” to view the price list and subscription options. Still not convinced? Send a free card courtesy of me! Click on the “Send a Free Card” icon and send a card worth up to three points to someone. Take a look around the website and all the options available to you. I’ll even pay the postage! Not convinced of the quality? Then send your gift card to yourself to check out the quality! I’m sure you’ll be impressed.

A few ideas on how you can take advantage of SendOutCards™:

  • Send customized birthday and holiday cards to friends and family at a fraction of the cost
  • Send branded cards and postcards to clients — either single cards or large campaigns
  • Appointment reminder postcards to clients
  • Thank-you cards to clients for their business
  • Thank-you cards to those who refer clients to you
  • Promotional campaigns to your client list (real estate agents, vehicle sales representatives, etc.)
  • Encouragement cards to friends, family and colleagues going through difficulties (motivation, thinking of you, sympathy, etc.)
  • Congratulatory cards to clients, community leaders, friends and family (graduation, new job, awards, etc.)

This all may sound “old school” for a guy who’s into social media as much as I am, but the act of being social is what’s important here. Many people receive dozens (or more!) e-mail messages every day. Many are ignored, skipped over and forgotten or don’t even reach the recipient because they get caught in spam filters.

Send someone a real printed card, however, with a real stamp on the envelope, and you can be virtually 100% certain that it will be opened, read, acknowledged… and greatly (!!) appreciated. Not only that, it will sit on their desk or be posted on their bulletin board or fridge.

When was the last time you displayed an e-mail message on your desk or fridge? Yeah… I can’t remember, either.

Do yourself a favour and check out SendOutCards™. And remember… please don’t hesitate to send a free card! It’s on me!

Feel free to contact me should you require further information.
